An Interview With Dr. DeConti, A Qualified Plastic Surgeon In Virginia Beach

Who is a good candidate for rhinoplasty?

Some of the indications that you may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty are:

  1. Your nose appears too large for your face
  2. There is a bump on the nasal bridge
  3. When viewed in profile your nose seems too wide
  4. When viewed from the front the nasal tip droops or plunges
  5. The tip is thickened or enlarged
  6. Your nostrils are excessively flared
  7. Your nose is off-center or crooked
  8. Previous injury has made your nose asymmetrical

It is important that you have a clear idea of how you would like your nose to look and, at the same time, realize that there are limitations to the procedure. Patients with sufficient physical and emotional maturity who undergo rhinoplasty because they want to enhance their self-image are usually very satisfied with their decision.

What is Rhinoplasty?

Cosmetic surgery on the nose may be used to correct a hump on the top of the nose, a wide nose, a narrow nose, a deformed or wide tip, or to improve the relationship of the nose with the lip and the rest of the face. It is important that the changes made be individualized to your facial proportions. It may be necessary to change the chin in order to improve the aesthetic elements of the face. Surgery on the nose for improving breathing may consist of straightening a deviated septum (the internal cartilage in the middle of the nose that separates the two sides) or partially removing the turbinates (internal structures that extend in from the walls of the nose and may obstruct the airflow). These procedures may be covered by your insurance.

What are the benefits of Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty may be used to correct a hump on the top of the nose, a wide nose, a narrow nose, a deformed or wide tip, or to improve the relationship of the nose with the lip and the rest of the face. It also maybe performed to improve breathing through the nose when combined with a septoplasty (the internal cartilage in the middle of the nose that separates the two sides) or surgery to the turbinates (internal structures that extend in from the walls of the nose and may obstruct the airflow).
