1. Are there any age restrictions for undergoing rhinoplasty?
In general you want to make sure that the patient is 18 or so to be able to understand the risks and alternatives of this procedure.The exception to this is a nasal deformity causing a psychological problem for the patient.
2. Why does it take a full year to see final rhinoplasty results?
The nasal tissues are very delicate and swelling and scar formation takes time to remodel or/and disappear.
3. Is rhinoplasty very painful?
If an osteotomy(division of the nasal bones) is needed there is some discomfort that is usually well tolerated.
4. What is nasal packing?
A nasal pack keeps the airway open,splint the nose from inside and helps to minimize postoperative bleeding and swelling.
5. What if you are unhappy with the results of your rhinoplasty?
The best advice is to wait for the final result. Keep the line of communication open with your surgeon. Reviewing pre and post op pictures is essential to agree on results and goals.
6. Is it true that the nose is more runny after rhinoplasty?
In the early post operative period there could be some nasal discharge but it usually stops after the first week or two.
7. Does rhinoplasty leave scars?
An open rhinoplasty leaves a 4 mm scar on the bottom part of the nose that is hard to see.
