1. Are there any age restrictions for undergoing rhinoplasty?
Usually the nose is mature and grown by age 16. Anytime after this it is safe to proceed with this type of surgery.
2. Why does it take a full year to see final rhinoplasty results?
The nose is unique in that it takes longer than other areas to reach its final appearance. This is particularly in the tip area that needs to fully settle.
3. Is rhinoplasty very painful?
Actually it is not that painful. While you will have some significant swelling for a few days, most patients remark that it was not that uncomfortable.
4. What is nasal packing?
Nasal packing is placed immediately at the end of the rhinoplasty. It is there only to catch some minor bleeding. It can be removed in a day.
5. What if you are unhappy with the results of your rhinoplasty?
After a year has passed and everything has fully settled, touchups can be made if necessary. This is something that has to be mutually agreed upon by the surgeon and patient.
6. Is it true that the nose is more runny after rhinoplasty?
I have not seen this to be true.
7. Does rhinoplasty leave scars?
All the incisions are inside the nose. If an open technique is used a small scar will be on the columella (the column of skin between the nostrils). This very hard to see.
