An Interview With Dr. Guyuron, A Qualified Plastic Surgeon In Cleveland

How long can I expect the results to last?

The rhinoplasty results are usually permanent.

Are there any age restrictions for undergoing rhinoplasty?

We usually do not perform an elective rhinoplasty on female patients younger than 13 and male patients younger than 14. The upper limit is more dependent on the patient' s health rather than age.

What is nasal packing?

Most of us no longer use a packing which used to be very uncomfortable.

Why does it take a full year to see final rhinoplasty results?

Becasue it takes a year for the nose swelling to go away.

Is rhinoplasty very painful?

There could be some discomfort the night of surgery but it is not severe and it usually subsides within the next day or two.

How long does it take to recover from rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is usually done in an outpatient setting under anesthesia. The nose is bandaged for about 7-8 days. Often there is minimal to moderate swelling and bruising around the eyes. Social activities can be resumed in 8 days and heavy excercises in 3 weeks.

What does a Rhinoplasty procedure involve?

During the surgery, the skin is lifted and the underlying cartilage and bone are rearranged to alter the shape of the nose. The incisions are very minimal and are often not visible.

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is surgery on the nose to correct the flaws that one is born with, or flaws caused by an accident or a disease.

What are the benefits of Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty improves the appearance of the nose and often the function of the nose, if it is done by an experienced person.

Who is a good candidate for rhinoplasty?

Anyone who dislikes his/her nose, is healthy enough to undergo surgery and has realistic expectations from the surgery is a good candidate for a rhinoplasty.

What are the risks associated with Rhinoplasty?

The most common risk of rhinoplasty is the need for some minor revision surgery. Infection and bleeding can occur but is unlikely. Breathing can get worse, but that would be even less likely, especially in experienced hands. Rarely, the nose runs excessively after surgery.
